University of Utah College of Education
Safia is the Director of Development for the College of Education at the University of Utah. Before this position, she was the Chief Employment Development Officer at Columbus Community Center for 3 ½ years, Director of Corporate Relations at Westminster College for 10 years from 2006-2016, and Director of Group and Corporate Ticket Sales for Broadway Across America for 11 years from 1995-2006.
She sits on several boards, including AFP Utah Chapter, the University of Utah Marriott Library Ski Archives, Rotary Club of Millcreek, and is MS Society Utah/So. Idaho Board Emeritus Board Member. She is also the Chair of the Utah Women’s Giving Circle, which is part of the Community Foundation of Utah. She received her BA in International Relations at the University of Colorado in Boulder.
She has one son, Maclane, who is 26 years old and is the light of her life. She has been married for 29 years to her loving husband, Lester. She is a fierce advocate for the inclusion of people with disabilities in all aspects of life and making sure that DEI statements include disabilities as a form of diversity. When not working or volunteering, she loves to ski, go camping, and enjoy a nice glass of wine with a good book!
