This position is part of an international network of development professionals at 21 locations in the U.S., Mexico and Canada collectively working to support our 100-year-long mission to provide care to children, regardless of their family's ability to pay.

The qualified candidate identifies, cultivates and solicits prospective donors in the Intermountain West region to support the Shriners Children’s Salt Lake City outpatient facility. Nurtures donor relationships throughout the community through regular communication, contact and recognition. Writes and submits grants to foundations, develops and maintains strong relationships with donors, hospital-affiliated Shrine Centers, corporations and the local community. Acts as an external representative in the community and at events on behalf of Shriners Children’s and our amazing mission to care for children. Exercises professional and ethical judgement in the performance of duties. Cooperatively supports the Development team’s efforts to meet and exceed annual goals. Responsible for fulfilling the objectives and goals identified by the Director of Development, Administrator and Development Committee as consistent with those articulated by Shriners Children’s national boards and the Chief Development Officer.

Under the direction of the Director of Development, manages a professional portfolio of grants, coordinates all operations and programs related to the hospital’s annual giving donor program, including the implementation of an annual plan which includes solicitation and stewardship strategies that enhance and expand the hospital’s various donor constituencies; the development of promotional and solicitation materials; and the overall stewardship of grants and annual giving donors.

  • Develops, builds and maintains a comprehensive, Shriners Children's Salt Lake City (SLC) clinic-based donor development program through focus on individual, foundation, events and corporate annual giving.
  • Responsible for developing and implementing long and short-range operational plans to identify and grow the number of prospective donors for grants, sponsorships, major gifts and as needed, planned giving programs.
  • Identifies, cultivates and stewards prospective donor relationships through personal visits, and written or oral communication for the purpose of obtaining financial gifts.
  • Plans and implements “moves management” strategies for identification, cultivation, timely solicitation and stewardship of donor prospects at annual giving and major giving levels to increase their level of support.
  • Demonstrates a solid performance record for closing charitable gifts.
  • Demonstrates a knowledge and ability for building relationships with and obtaining gifts from corporations and foundations.
  • Skilled writer with the ability to draft fundraising proposals, write grants, patient stories for our annual newsletters, and direct mail pieces.  
  • Initiates, develops, and maintains cooperative relationships with Shriners Children's SLC-affiliated Shrine Centers (fraternal organization), local SLC Donor Development Committee, and within the local community for the purpose of raising philanthropic funds.
  • Provides staff support as assigned for hospital fund raising committees and Board of Governors.
  • Ability to work remote from home and on the road.

Additional Experience Information:

  • A demonstrable track record of fundraising or similar accomplishments is essential.
  • A working knowledge of all planned giving vehicles is helpful.
  • Healthcare fundraising and supervisory experience helpful.
  • CFRE accreditation preferred or the interest in pursuing this credential.
  • Experience writing grants, newsletters and fundraising proposals is preferred.
