Title: Major Gift Officer, Student Support Initiatives

Salary Range: $65,000-$70,000

Job Description: The newly created Student Support advancement team at the University of Utah is seeking an innovative and experienced fundraising professional to help develop and grow a major gift fundraising program to secure funding for campus-wide scholarships and student support initiatives. The desired candidate will have experience in securing major gifts, portfolio management, and relationship building, as well as the maturity, wisdom, and collaborative skills necessary to gain the trust and confidence of University leadership across various departments.   

This position will be embedded within the Equity, Diversity & Inclusion division (EDI) and will serve as the EDI liaison for the Student Support Initiative fundraising team. As the EDI liaison, this position will work closely with EDI’s leaders and team members to understand funding needs. This position will also fundraise for all scholarships and programs that the Student Support Initiatives team supports within the following academic units: Financial Aid & Scholarships, Student Affairs, Undergraduate Studies, Graduate Studies, and the Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Division.


  • Research and identify major gift prospects, and make direct solicitations to alumni, friends, foundations, and corporations on behalf of the University through face-to-face interactions. Ensure fundraising efforts are donor-centric.
  • Prepare major gift prospect strategies for comprehensive fund-raising campaigns by developing specific plans for individual donors.
  • Prepare and write individual proposals to solicit contributions.
  • Adhere to the University’s prospect management standards, track donor relationships and file contact reports.
  • Modeling the One U mission, collaborate closely with campus partners, and build a culture of trust with the various departments, centers, and organizations this team supports.



Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree or equivalency, four or more years of development experience that demonstrates the ability to successfully establish long-term relationships and secure major gifts; strong interpersonal communication skills and demonstrated excellent writing skills.
